Actual reporting from Gitmo (as opposed to irresponsible self-serving bombast)

I generally don't like FOX's Catherine Herridge, but here she does glean some good information about Gitmo. Prisoners with good behavior get 18 HOURS A DAY outside???? I'm not an expert on American prisons, but I do believe that's unheard of. Why are violent Islamists getting special treatment? Video from 1/30/08:

The warden on the progressive views of the inmates:

There's many things that can agitate our population. We've had some that a simple advertisement on TV with nothing more than a fully-clothed female who was washing her arms, I believe it was the Palmolive advertisement just agitated them, set them off. We had one population that destroyed a television over that type of advertisement.

This is happening in 2009?

Turkish PM is a grotesque hypocrite

By now you know about the the anti-Israel tirade unleashed by the prime minister of "moderate" Turkey at Davos. His brave denunciation of the Zionazi killers has been heartily praised by the Hamas leadership.

It's ironic that he shows such moral outrage at Israel's bombing of Hamas, because it was only two weeks ago that his own government was boasting at having killed 700 Kurds in the year of 2008.

In the tradition of Middle East reporting, here's a picture of dead children to let you know which side are the barbarians and which side are the innocent victims. These are dead Kurdish children, and the Turks are the Nazi barbarians who killed them for fun:

When asked about his close relationship with Hamas, Turkish PM Tayyip Erdogan said:

"The world has not respected the political will of the Palestinian people. On the one hand, we defend democracy and we try our best to keep democracy in the Middle East, but on the other hand we do not respect the outcome of . . . the ballot box," he explained.

Has Turkey respected the political will of the Kurdish people? No, they have explicitly denied rights to their 17 million Kurdish citizens (often including the ability to SPEAK THEIR OWN LANGUAGE) since the birth of modern Turkey in the 1920's. In recent years they've made punitive bombing raids on Kurdish populations in northern Iraq, violating Iraq's sovereignty and murdering its citizens.

Here's a small sample:

02/25/2008
Scores killed as Turkey attacks Kurds

03/23/2008
Kurds killed in Turkey protests

05/03/2008
Turkey claims to have killed 150 Kurdish rebels in Iraq

10/17/2008
Turkey: 35 Kurdish rebels killed in clashes

10/24/2008
Turkey: 25 Kurdish rebels killed in air strikes
Turkish military says 25 Kurdish rebels killed in air strikes in northern Iraq, many wounded

Here's a picture of a shameless hypocrite, Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan:

"THE TEN COMMANDMENTS FOR ZIONISTS": Analysis of a YouTube spamming

I received this spam comment on my two latest videos: Root Causes of the Gaza Conflict and "Allahu-Akbar" in Context. The YouTube account apparently belongs to a 19 year-old in Saudi Arabia using the name saad6633. Regardless of who the user really is or who wrote the script for them, I think this is an interesting artifact of anti-Jewish Jihadi propaganda.

THE TEN COMMANDMENTS FOR ZIONISTS

1 Thou shall commit BLASPHEMY against Prophet Mohammad and Islam
2 Thou shall INCITE HATRED against Muslims
3 Thou shall MURDER Palest
4 Thou shall STEAL Palest land
5 Thou shall WHINGE about Holocaust
6 Thou shall not let anyone question HOLOCAUST MYTH
7 Thou shall Call Anti-Zionist Jew a SELF HATER
8 Thou shall HIDE behind US
9 Thou shall LIE about Bani Khazaria
10 Thou shall pretend SECULAR

Notice that the number 1 item on this list of Zionist crimes is "BLASPHEMY against the Prophet Muhammad and Islam," a statement that has nothing to do with the 1948 borders or the 1967 borders or the withdrawal of settlements. The primary quarrel here is religious.

In numbers 6 and 7 we see the mainstream Islamic tradition of downplaying and denial of the Holocaust.

In number 9 the author refers to "Bani Khazaria". I can't tell if that's a play on words or a silly mistake. The "Banu Quraiza" were a Jewish tribe in Arabia that Mohammed slaughtered and enslaved early on in his career. Meanwhile, "Khazaria" was a steppe region inhabited by Turkic people whose elites converted to Judaism in the Middle Ages. It has been suggested by Western and Islamic anti-semites alike that Ashkenazi (Eastern European) Jews are not "Jews" at all, but descend from the Khazars, and therefore have no connection to the land of Israel. The author of this spam has combined these two concepts and warned me not to "LIE about the Banu Khazaria," truly a bizarre and nonsensical concept.

And so you see children, we can learn from everything, even Jihadist spam.

Gaza graphic-arts industry sees a post-war boom

"Martyrdom" is a lucrative business in Gaza:

Some were killed when tank shells hit their homes. Others died when bombs erased their offices. Still others met their end battling Israeli troops.

Now their faces are rolling off the presses at the Nibras print shop, which produces full-color posters and banners of the dead. In the wake of Israel's 22-day Gaza offensive — which killed nearly 1,300 Palestinians — it's one of the few businesses experiencing a postwar boom.

Islamic Jihad fighter Mohammed Bedawi was among the so-called "martyrs" whose demise was commemorated with a custom-made poster — a tradition for anyone killed by Israel.

IDF Battalion Commander: "Death before capture"

This (so far unidentified) IDF officer didn't want his soldiers to suffer the same fate as Gilad Shalit. Western armies need more hard-ass leaders like this guy if we want to win this war.

In a tape recording of a briefing the commander of Battalion 51 gave his soldiers before entering Gaza during Operation Cast Lead the senior officer was heard saying: "Hamas's strategic weapon is to kidnap a soldier and I don't have to tell you but no soldier from Battalion 51 gets kidnapped at any price and under any situation even if it means that he has to blow up his grenade together with those who are trying to kidnap him."

"We are going to explain to the Palestinian enemies what it means to mess with Israel. It is important that you understand we are going into a war. The coiled spring of Battalion 51 is going to pop in the face of these Palestinians," he is heard saying in the recording.

...

"In the name of these values we fight, and in their name we shall win," 51's commander is heard telling the men at the end of the recording.

...

During Operation Cast Lead, Hamas tried kidnapping soldiers on a number of occasions. In one case, a soldier from an Engineering Corps unit fought face-to-face with two Hamas gunmen who tried pulling him into a tunnel. In another case, a group of soldiers were injured in a booby-trapped home and another unit stormed the building after there was a tunnel inside that Hamas planned to use to kidnap some of the wounded soldiers.

The commander of Battalion 51, who cannot be identified due to IDF restrictions on officers who participated in the operation, is a respected officer who served in several command posts in Golani's elite Egoz Unit.

Is Europe waking up?

Probably not in any comprehensive way, but stories like this still warm the cockles of my heart.

Top EU official: Hamas bears full responsibility for Gaza war

Hamas bears full responsibility for the war in Gaza, a top EU official said Monday in the Strip, calling the group "a terrorist movement."

"At this time we have to also recall the overwhelming responsibility of Hamas," Louis Michel, European Commissioner for Development and Humanitarian Aid, told reporters.

"I intentionally say this here - Hamas is a terrorist movement and it has to be denounced as such," Michel said as he visited the town of Jabalya in northern Gaza.

"Public opinion is fed up to see that we are paying over and over again - be it the (European) commission, the member states or the major donors - for infrastructure that will be systematically destroyed," he said.

Are EU bureaucrats finally listening to their domestic silent majority to the detriment of the screaming Islamo-Leftist mobs in the streets? One can only hope.

In Brussels, EU foreign ministers discussed a package of diplomatic and practical measures that European countries could take to advance Middle East peace efforts. Their goals include halting arms smuggling into the Gaza Strip

Sounds good.

and promoting a unity government between the Palestinian Authority and Hamas.

Total nonsense.

Several EU countries, including Britain and France, also are offering naval vessels and monitors to help Egypt curb the smuggling of weapons into Gaza.

Better than nothing.

FAT CHANCE: Palestinian calls for "Gazan Winograd"

Palestinians are starting to admit that they envy some aspects of the "Zionist entity" next door. The Winograd Commission was created to investigate Israeli governmental errors in the 2006 Lebanon War. Now a Fatah-affiliated Palestinian intellectual is calling for a similar investigation into Hamas for its conduct during the recent war in Gaza.

'Let's have Gazan Winograd - for Hamas'

Scoffing at Hamas's claim that it emerged victorious from the war in the Gaza Strip, a prominent Palestinian academic and writer called on the Islamist movement to learn from the Israelis and form a Palestinian "Winograd Committee" to examine the group's performance.

"We want this commission of inquiry to be as brave and daring as the Israeli one," he wrote, in an article published on a number of Fatah-run media outlets. "We want the commission to tell us whether we have achieved a new divine victory or have added another defeat to our record."

The academic's remarks are seen in the context of a fierce war of words between Hamas and Fatah, which intensified after the military offensive ended.

Over the weekend, a number of top Fatah and Palestinian Authority representatives reiterated allegations that Hamas was stealing aid from convoys that are being dispatched to the Gaza Strip. They also accused Hamas of escalating its massive crackdown on Fatah by continuing to shoot members of the faction in the legs.

Yasser Abed Rabbo, a senior PLO official and close adviser to PA President Mahmoud Abbas, claimed that Hamas had turned mosques into detention centers for interrogating and torturing Fatah activists.

He's also using the term "Gazan" instead of "Palestinian," the relevance of which I addressed in another post:

"The question now is when will we see a Gazan Winograd?" Abu Matar wrote.

"I'm deliberately saying 'Gazan' and not 'Palestinian' because this war was between Hamas, which staged a coup in June 2007 and liberated the Gaza Strip from Fatah and the Palestinian Authority, and Israel. As such, Hamas is responsible for the 1.5 million Palestinians during war and peace."

...

Accusing Hamas of establishing a repressive dictatorship in the Gaza Strip, Abu Matar held Hamas responsible for the death and persecution of many Palestinians. He pointed out that some 150 Fatah members and leaders had fled to Israel a few months before the war after being targeted by Hamas.

The sad irony, he remarked, is that at a certain stage Palestinians considered the Israeli occupation to be more "merciful" than Hamas's paramilitary and much-feared Executive Force in the Gaza Strip.

Guantánamo detainee (predictably) resurfaces in terrorist group

You mean he didn't go home to become domestic partners with a liberated woman and raise a progressive family? IHT.

The emergence of a former Guantánamo Bay detainee as the deputy leader of Al Qaeda's Yemeni branch has underscored the potential complications in carrying out the executive order that President Barack Obama signed that the detention center be shut down within a year.

The militant, Said Ali al-Shihri, is suspected of involvement in a deadly bombing of the U.S. Embassy in Yemen's capital, Sana, in September. He was released to Saudi Arabia in 2007 and passed through a Saudi rehabilitation program for former jihadists before resurfacing with Al Qaeda in Yemen.

PLO: "Hamas exploiting blood spilled in Gaza"

Aide to Abbas says PA will not allow Hamas to turn Gaza into a 'separatist entity' following IDF op

The Palestinian Authority will not allow Hamas to turn Gaza into a "separatist entity" in the wake of Israel's military operation there, a senior aide to president Mahmoud Abbas said Thursday.

"We will not allow the creation of a separatist entity, no matter what the price," Yasser Abed Rabbo told a press conference. "The plot aiming to separate Gaza from the West Bank will not pass."

Abbas has not controlled Gaza since June 2007, when Hamas booted forces loyal to his secular Fatah party from the coastal strip.

Abed Rabbo accused Hamas's exiled political chief Khaled Mashaal of "using slogans and exploiting the blood spilled in Gaza to cover his separatist projects."

He also accused "Hamas gangs" in Gaza of ordering dozens of Fatah members under house arrest during the Israeli offensive and of "arresting, beating and shooting in the legs" others.

Another reminder that the West Bank and Gaza are one organic nation just about as much as Egypt and Syria were. Fatah/PLO heads a standard Arab-nationalist klepto-state on the West Bank, and Hamas runs and religiofascist Muslim Brotherhood state in Gaza. Lately even the mainstream media has begun to say "Gazans" as opposed to "Palestinians," because it is self-evident that the politics of Gaza have little to do with the West Bank.

Obama's first phone call as President is to Mahmoud Abbas

Yeah, I know it's just symbolic, but it's exactly the kind of symbolism I don't want to see on a President's first day. Notice how Arab News uses his full name, "Hussein" and all:

WASHINGTON: Barack Hussein Obama wasted no time plunging into foreign policy on his first full day in office yesterday, finally freed from the constraints of tradition that had forced him and his staff to remain silent about world affairs until he became president.

Obama made a flurry of calls to Arab and Israeli leaders in a signal that Middle East peacemaking is a top priority following Israeli aggression against Gaza.

A Palestinian spokesman said that Obama had told Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas that he was the recipient of his first call as the 44th US president.

More Arab skepticism on Hamas' "Great Victory"

Lebanese Journalists 'Uqab Saqr and May Chidiac Criticize Arab TV Channels for Showing Graphic Footage from Gaza: Israelis Value Human Life More Than Us

Broadcast: January 8, 2009

On a January 8, 2009 segment on LBC TV, Lebanese journalists 'Uqab Saqr and May Chidiac condemned the Arab media for showing graphic footage from Gaza, including "body parts and bits of flesh."

The following are excerpts from the LBC segment:

"How Can All This Destruction and Blood Cause Exhilaration?"

Uqab Saqr: "Arab mentality has been accustomed to defeats with many casualties. Today, Hamas and Hizbullah suffer tremendous casualties, but no defeats. This leads Arab mentality to a sense of exhilaration. The West - and most of us - do not understand this. How can all this destruction and blood cause exhilaration?"

May Chidiac: "Personally, I dont understand how they can show body parts and bits of flesh on TV. Some may view this as a victory, but I consider it to be sacrificing our children."

"You, Me, and the Whole World Ask How This Can Be Described as a Victory - The Resistance Movement Views Things Differently"

Uqab Saqr: "Of course. You, me, and the whole world ask how this can be described as a victory. The resistance movement views things differently. It believes that its survival as a resistance movement, and its maintaining of its regional confrontation plan, are more important than avoiding the death of some martyrs, because in its view, there is a cause that is more important than the human factor, while others believe that the human factor is the central issue in our countries." [...]

The Israelis "Value Human Life More Than We Do; We Have No Respect for Human"

May Chidiac: "Are our children worth less than [Israeli] children?"

Uqab Saqr: "The question is why their blood is worth more than ours, and the answer, to be frank, is that they value human life more than we do. We have no respect for human life in our society - you see this in our jails, in the crimes we commit against one another. Look back a little, and see what happened between Fatah and Hamas. The Israeli newspapers wrote that there were massacres, and some Fatah members fled to Israel for fear of Hamas." [...]

"Osama Hamdan Said That Israeli Arabs Should Shake The Foundations of Israel... We Have Never Heard Any Israeli Official Telling [Jews and Israelis in the U.S.] to Shake the Foundations of Anything"

"Osama Hamdan said that Israeli Arabs should shake the foundations of Israel from within. The Jews and Israeli citizens in America serve Israel 24 hours a day, but we have never heard any Israeli official telling them to shake the foundations of anything in the service of Israel. On the contrary, they say to them: Assimilate in U.S. society, and serve the Israeli cause."

Hamas Prime Minister declares "victory"

From Haaretz.

"The enemy has failed to achieve its goals," Ismail Haniyeh, the top Hamas leader in the territory, said in a speech broadcast on Hamas television.

Though he called the war, in which more than 1,300 Gazans and 13 Israelis died, a "popular victory" for Palestinians, Haniyeh said Hamas's decision to declare a truce on Sunday was "wis
e and responsible".

Wise indeed if you don't want to be pounded into dust. Hamas' self-destructive Jihad has also cost the economy of Gaza an estimated $1.6 billion.

This reminds me of the "victory" that Hassan Nasrallah declared after the 2006 Lebanon War. The victory that cost his terrorist army 600 fighters and cost the Lebanese people an additional 1,200 civilians and billions in economic destruction.

Hezbollah's "victory" was killing 121 Israelis. Hamas' "victory" was killing 13 Israelis. Regardless of how many of their children die it is an acceptable loss. After all they've told us directly that "they love death as we love life."

Obama prayer leader linked to Hamas

Honestly I'm not particularly trying to slander Obama here. President Bush has met with American Islamist leaders under the rubric of multiculturalism on many occasions. It was wrong under Bush and it'll be wrong under Obama too.

From the AP: Obama prayer leader linked to Hamas

A Muslim scholar chosen to speak at President-elect Barack Obama's inaugural prayer service Wednesday is the leader of a group that federal prosecutors say has ties to terrorists.

Ingrid Mattson, president of the Islamic Society of North America, is one of many religious leaders scheduled to speak at the prayer service at Washington's National Cathedral.

Mattson has been the guest of honor at State Department dinners and has met with senior Pentagon officials during the Bush administration. She also spoke at a prayer service at the Democratic National Convention in Denver. Mattson, who was elected president of the society in 2006, is a professor of Islamic studies at Hartford Seminary in Hartford, Connecticut.

But in 2007 and as recently as last July, federal prosecutors in Dallas filed court documents linking the Plainfield, Indiana-based Islamic society to Hamas, which the US considers a terrorist organization.

Neither Mattson nor her organization have been charged. But prosecutors wrote in July that they had "a wide array of testimonial and documentary evidence expressly linking" the group to Hamas and other radical groups.

Linda Douglass, a spokeswoman for Obama's inaugural committee, would not discuss the case or say whether the committee knew about it.

"She has a stellar reputation in the faith community," Douglass said Saturday night.

The existence of the court documents was first reported by Politico.

The Islamic Society of North America, which describes itself as "the nation's largest mainstream Muslim community-based organization," is fighting its inclusion on a list of co-conspirators in the Dallas terrorism case against the Holy Land Foundation. In court documents, Mattson's group says it does not condone terrorism.

The court documents represent a complicated picture of the group.

Law enforcement agencies have used the organization's annual convention as part of its outreach to the Muslim community. The group has provided religious training to the FBI, according to court documents. Karen Hughes, a former Bush confidant and under secretary of state, called Mattson "a wonderful leader and role model for many, many people."

All this was going on while officials in the law enforcement and intelligence community apparently had evidence that the Islamic Society of North America had ties to terrorists and to the Holy Land Foundation. That foundation and five of its former leaders were convicted at a retrial in November of funneling millions of dollars to Hamas.

The Islamic Society helps certify Muslim chaplains for federal prisons. Mattson leads a program at the Hartford Seminary that trains Muslim chaplains for the US military.

Mattson was one of about three dozen leaders, including former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, and two former Republican congressmen, Vin Weber and Steve Bartlett, who developed a report released last fall on how the US can fight extremism in the Muslim world.

The root causes of the Gaza conflict in less than 6 minutes

Forget everything the mainstream media tells you about the "cycle of violence" and the "peace process." The conflict in the Middle East boils down to one issue; the imposition of Islam upon the world. Hamas, as a Muslim Brotherhood affiliate, is perfectly open about its desire for a global Islamic caliphate. Such an enemy by definition can never be appeased, and must be destroyed.

Full transcript with links follows:

From the dawn of Islam the universal Muslim community has been known as the Ummah, literally “the nation” . From the 7th century through the early 20th century the Ummah was ruled by a Caliph, who was considered to be the legitimate political successor to the Prophet Muhammad on earth. His domain was known as the Caliphate. The capital of the Caliphate and the amount of territory it controlled changed with the geopolitical currents of the day. In the 7th and 8th centuries the Ummayad Caliphs ruled from Damascus. From the 8th to the 14th century, the Abbasid Caliphs oversaw Islam’s "Golden Age" from Baghdad. The capital moved away from the Arab world to Constantinople with the ascendance of the Turkish Ottoman Empire in the 16th century.

No matter what form the Caliphate took in a particular era, it was always ruled by one adaptation or another of Islamic Shariah law. The Koran was the highest legal authority, and Christians and Jews lived as insecure Dhimmis, inferior guests in the domain of Islam. Zoroastrians, Hindus and polytheists at the fringes of the Caliphate were considered even lower.

From the 19th century on, as the Western world modernized and industrialized, the obsolete Ottoman Empire steadily declined. Western concepts of nationalism influenced Arabs in the Middle East who wondered why they were being governed from a faraway Turkish capital, and influenced Turks to wonder why they were governed by an ancient religious empire rather than a Turkish nation-state.

It was this morally and physically weakened Caliphate that opposed the Allies in WWI, uniting with the Central Powers of Germany and Austria-Hungary. From the ashes of the Ottoman defeat at the hands of the Allies, the nationalist leader Mustafa Kemal Ataturk declared the modern state of Turkey. On March 3, 1924 he constitutionally abolished the institution of the Caliphate, the first time this had happened in the almost 1300 years since the Prophet Muhammad walked the earth.

It was just four years after this spiritual-political blow that the Muslim Brotherhood was founded in Egypt in 1928 . The brotherhood railed against the new tide of nationalism in the Middle East. Their primary goal was to reinstate Islamic rule and Sharia law in the modern nations that used to belong to the Caliphate, and eventually extend that rule over the entire world .

The officially stated objectives of the Brotherhood are :

-Building the Muslim individual
-Building the Muslim family
-Building the Muslim society
-Building the Muslim state
-Building the Caliphate
-Mastering the world with Islam

Today the Brotherhood has branches in 70 countries. Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, the architect of 9/11, was a member of the Muslim Brotherhood. Abdullah Azzam, a Palestinian Muslim Brotherhood preacher, was the mentor of Osama Bin Laden. Bin Laden’s lieutenant Ayman al-Zawahiri got his start in the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood at the age of 14.

In 1991 the Muslim Brotherhood recognized some 29 “likeminded” organizations in the United States, including the Muslim American Society, the International Institute of Islamic Thought, The Islamic Society of North America, the Muslim Students Association and the forerunner of the Council on American Islamic Relations .

Meanwhile, Israel is struggling against the Gaza branch of the Muslim Brotherhood. In the 1987 Hamas Charter they explicitly refer to themselves as a wing of the Muslim Brotherhood in Palestine.

And if we read Article 9 of the Hamas Charter, we can examine the Muslim Brotherhood influence:

“Hamas founded itself at a time when Islam had disappeared from life. Thus, rules were shaken, concepts were upset, values changed and evil people took control, oppression and darkness prevailed, cowards became like tigers: homelands were usurped, people were scattered and were caused to wander all over the world, the state of justice disappeared and the state of falsehood replaced it. Nothing remained in its right place. When Islam is absent from the arena, everything changes."

This of course refers to the fall of the Islamic Caliphate.

"As for the objectives: They are fighting against the falsehoods, defeating them and vanquishing them so that justice can prevail, that the homelands be retrieved and from their mosques the voice of the mu'azen would emerge declaring the establishment of the state of Islam, so that people and things would return each to their right places, as Allah is our helper."

The western concepts of peace and truces and territorial compromises are not relevant to the conflict with Hamas. No territorial concession will whet their appetite, as the violent reaction to the Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza strip in 2005 has shown. Hamas’s stated goal as a Muslim Brotherhood organization is to establish the rule of Islam on earth. First over the Gaza Strip, then the West Bank and Israel, then the rest of the world. They believe the world was organized properly in the era of the Caliphate, and that the past 85 years of secular rule in the Middle East have been a hideous aberration. In their eyes Israel is not marked for destruction because it occupies this or that piece of territory, but because it exists at all as land not governed by Sharia. As such, a permanent settlement can never be reached with Hamas. The current conflict between Hamas and Israel will end when Israel accepts Islam, or when Hamas’ ideas of Islamic supremacy are obliterated… whichever comes first.

Iran just got bitch-slapped in Gaza

Palestinian sources: 'Iran unit' of Hamas has been destroyed

Palestinian sources reported Thursday that the "Iranian Unit" of Hamas, members of the group's military wing trained by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, had been destroyed.

According to the sources, most of the unit's members were killed in fighting in the Zeytun neighborhood, where they had been deployed by the military leadership of Hamas.

The unit numbered approximately 100 men who had traveled to Iran and Hezbollah camps, mostly in the Beka'a Valley, where they were trained in infantry fighting tactics. The militants were also trained in the use of anti-tank missiles, the detonation of explosives, among other skills.

They managed to return to the Gaza Strip through tunnels in the Rafah border area, although a few also crossed during one of the few times that Egypt agreed to open the border crossing as a gesture of good will to Hamas.

The same sources also noted that Iran is preparing for an end to the fighting, at which point they want to send money to the Gaza Strip in order to assist Hamas in rebuilding destroyed homes - but also restore its military capabilities.

"Allahu Akbar" in context

Some YouTube commenters were upset when I characterized "Allahu Akbar" as an "Islamic war chant" in my video about the pro-Hamas rally in DC.

JohnnySoprano87 said:

Don't let ignorance get you. Shouting "God is Great" is nothing bad. It just happens that extremists use religion to justify thier actions. The comparison is one of us giving thanks to Christ in church while some Christian extremist doing so while killing someone.

What pray tell is wrong with yelling """God is Great"? I suppose you are against using the arabic word Enshauallah meaning "God Willing" also. Try not to be quite so ignorant.

Egypt is pivotal to the future of Gaza

Israel's most important ceasefire condition in the current Gaza conflict is an end to weapons-smuggling via tunnels on the Gaza-Egypt border. The Hamas-created fiasco in Gaza may force them to act:

Egypt is in a bind. Its own national interest isn't far from Israel's, yet it dare not inflame its domestic Islamist opposition, the Muslim Brotherhood, which is closely tied to Hamas. It is understandably loath to allow a free flow of Gazans - who might have Brotherhood or Iranian ties and stir up more unrest inside Egypt.

Keeping the current situation on a low flame may strike Egypt as the least distasteful of a poor menu of choices. Yet it is a recipe for further bloodshed. If the Philadelphi Corridor isn't permanently secured, another - worse - round of warfare is inevitable. It would leave Hamas approaching Hizbullah in strength and posing an even greater risk of destabilization within Egypt.

Meanwhile, an influential Egyptian editor openly blamed Hamas for the violence. The Egyptians (and the Sunni Arab world in general) are tiring of Iranian Shia interference in their backyards:

Karam Jaber, editor of the semi-official Egyptian weekly Roz Al-Youssef magazine, said that Hamas was caught between the Syrian anvil and the Iranian hammer. The Iranians, he said, prevented Hamas from negotiating a cease-fire with Israel, while the Syrians were blackmailing and intimidating the Hamas leaders in Damascus.

"History won't forget to mention that Hamas had inflicted death and destruction on the Palestinians," he said. "We hope that Hamas has learned the lesson and realizes that it has been fighting a war on behalf of others. We hope the Hamas leaders will realize that they are fighting a destructive war on behalf of the Iranians and Syrians."

Egyptian political analyst Magdi Khalil said he shared the view of the Palestinian Authority and Egypt that Hamas was responsible for the war in the Gaza Strip. "Ever since Hamas seized control over the Gaza Strip in 2007, they turned the area into hell," he said. "They imposed restrictions on the people there and even prevented them from performing the pilgrimage to Mecca."

1938: "Jews go to Palestine!" / 2008: "Jews out of Palestine!"

From Mark Steyn's column "The Oldest Hatred":

But why worry about European Muslims? The European political and media class essentially shares the same view of the situation — to the point where state TV stations are broadcasting fake Israeli “war crimes.” As I always say, the “oldest hatred” didn’t get that way without an ability to adapt: Once upon a time on the Continent, Jews were hated as rootless cosmopolitan figures who owed no national allegiance. So they became a conventional nation state, and now they’re hated for that. And, if Hamas get their way and destroy the Jewish state, the few who survive will be hated for something else. So it goes.

Joe the Plumber brings American common sense to Israel-Gaza conflict

Jerusalem Post article, and AP video:

"You should be ashamed of yourself," he told foreign reporters.

"You should be patriotic, protect your family and children, not report like you have been doing for the past two weeks since this war has started," he said.

Joe is my kind of man.

He also wondered why Israel waited so long to act. "I know if I were a citizen here, I'd be damned upset." He described himself as a "peaceloving man," but added, "when someone hits me, I'm going to unload on the boy. And if the rest of the world doesn't understand that, then I'm sorry."

Wurzelbacher had already announced that he would arrive in the area for 10 days to cover Operation Cast Lead and to assist in getting out the Israeli side of the story.

"I want the average American Joes to understand the story here from the point of view of someone like them," he told WNWO, a TV channel in his hometown of Toledo, Ohio, before heading here.

Muslim proclivity for using children as human shields is not limited to Gaza

Violent Muslim protesters in Oslo, Norway used their children as shields against the police. They have a lot in common with al-Qaeda in Iraq who used children and the mentally-handicapped as suicide bombers, and Hamas who boobytrap schools and encourage children to "martyr" themselves in Gaza.

Thanks to vasileOmFrumos.

Israel is winning, confronting terrorists works; NO MORE APPEASEMENT

If a tiny nation literally surrounded by Jihadist enemies can fight back, so can the US and Europe! And so we will or perish.

Opinion from the Jerusalem Post; Hamas Is Blind:

"The Jews in the State of Israel, despite being victims of war and terror, do not seem to be leaving their homes in droves. Israel has the economy of a small European nation and is thriving as a democracy despite the corruption of its leaders.

Hamas's leaders must be blind. They do not have the eyes to see that the sustained bombing of Sderot has only produced human misery for Jews and for themselves. The Jews are fighting in Gaza. Innocent civilians die when Israel targets the terrorist infrastructure. Who is to blame for this crisis? Israel left Gaza long ago. This territory belongs to the Palestinians. Why in the world did Hamas fire rockets into Israel after it left?

The hate of Israel that results from their understanding of Islam blinds Hamas terrorists to a reality that must trouble them, gnaw away at their confidence and overturn their sacred understanding of history's rights and wrongs. Samson was seduced by the delusion of love and paid a high cost. The followers of Hamas are driven by the delusion of erasing the shame of 1948, and they cannot move beyond that.

I find it amazing and exhilarating that the Knesset could recently invite a leader of today's Germany to speak only 65 years after the Nazis destroyed two-thirds of European Jewry. The message of the invitation was not one of forgetting the Holocaust or forgiving the perpetrators and their collaborators. Rather, the Jewish state understood that it needed to overcome the psychology of the victim and display the dignity of a victor. The Arab world and the Islamic populations in the Middle East are, for the most part, still living in a 60-year-old world that they have not been able to surmount. For more than half a century the anti-Israel rhetoric in the Middle East has remained the same. "

"If Sderot were the only issue in the war in Gaza, it would be disturbing but not alarming. But the alarm must be sounded. With Iran's pursuing the development of nuclear weapons, with Hizbullah dominating the government of Lebanon, with Hamas targeting larger cities in Israel's interior - this blindness to the reality of a thriving Israel poses a disaster to the world. Israel's enemies delude themselves into thinking it is on its last legs and about to topple into the sea. But as the war in Gaza has proven, Israel is ready to fight back and defend its sovereignty and its reality in history."

Fight on Israel.

Norwegian appeasement fails

Gates of Vienna has a developing report on pro-Hamas riots in Oslo. You might ask what makes this story particularly meaningful... after all there have been riots and anti-Jewish attacks across the continent this week.

It's because Norway is the Western country that has been most supportive of Hamas since they won the Palestinian elections in 2006.

Norway's deputy foreign minister Raymond Johansen met with Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh in March 2007.

Norway was the first to recognize the Hamas-led government and lift the economic and political boycott.

The lesson is that no amount of appeasement will keep the Jihadists away. It is shocking that now the Obama administration is preparing to go down the very same road.

Disturbing footage of Hamas violence against their own people

I encourage everyone to watch at least the first few minutes of this video. An Arabic-speaker narrates some shocking scenes of violence from Hamas-ruled Gaza. These are normal events under Hamas rule, yet we did not see any concern for these brutalized people from the "international community" until Israel started to attack their oppressors. The first clip shows Hamas shooting and beating celebrants at a wedding party for daring to dance and play music, and a second shows the brutal humiliation of Fatah prisoners in a prelude to their execution.

This is the regime that the international Left is rallying behind.

Hamas is having trouble killing Jews, so they're killing Arabs instead

Hamas moves on Fatah 'collaborators'

The Hamas government has placed dozens of Fatah members under house arrest out of fear that they might exploit the current IDF operation to regain control of the Gaza Strip.

Fatah officials in Ramallah told The Jerusalem Post that Hamas militiamen had been assaulting many Fatah activists since the beginning of the operation last Saturday. They said at least 75 activists were shot in the legs while others had their hands broken.

Very humane (and classy).

Wisam Abu Jalhoum, a Fatah activist from the Jabalya refugee camp, was shot in the legs by Hamas militiamen for allegedly expressing joy over the IDF air strikes on Hamas targets.

"Hamas is very nervous, because they feel that their end is nearing," a senior Fatah official said. "They have been waging a brutal campaign against Fatah members in the Gaza Strip."

Meanwhile, sources close to Hamas revealed over the weekend that the movement had "executed" more than 35 Palestinians who were suspected of collaborating with Israel and were being held in various Hamas security installations.

Justifying the latest crackdown on Fatah, a Hamas official in Gaza City said that his government had received information according to which Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas had instructed his loyalists in the Strip to start moving toward undermining Hamas.

"We will kill them all if they try to help Israel bring down our government," the official said. "We will hang Mahmoud Abbas and [former Fatah security chief] Muhammad Dahlan in the public square if they try to enter the Gaza Strip aboard Israeli tanks."

The Hamas official said that his security forces had launched a massive "preemptive" campaign aimed at thwarting Fatah's attempts to "spread anarchy and chaos." He confirmed that many Fatah operatives had been shot in the legs over the past few days by Hamas "to make sure that they don't help Israel."

Czech President Vaclav Klaus is my new hero

First he supports Israel's ground offensive in Gaza... now he's denouncing global warming extremists and lambasting the European Union itself? I love this man.

EU's new figurehead believes climate change is a myth

The European Union's new figurehead believes that climate change is a dangerous myth and has compared the union to a Communist state.

The Czech president, who caused a diplomatic incident by dining with opponents of the EU’s Lisbon treaty on a recent visit to Ireland, has a largely ceremonial role.

But there are already fears that, after the dynamic EU presidency of Nicolas Sarkozy - including his hyper-active attempts at international diplomacy over the credit crisis and Georgia as well as an historic agreement to cut greenhouse gases - the Czech effort will be mired in infighting and overshadowed by the platform it will give to Mr Klaus and his controversial views.

Apparently it's controversial to show any pride in being a Westerner.

Tensions recently erupted between Mr Klaus and Brussels when a private meeting with senior MEPs descended into a slanging match after they presented him with an EU flag and said that they were not interested in his Eurosceptic views.

Mr Klaus responded: “No one has spoken to me in this style and tone in my six years here. I thought these methods ended for us 18 years ago. I see I was wrong.”

He is undeniably popular with Czech voters, having been Prime Minister from 1992-97, overseeing the harmonious break-up with Slovakia, and president since 2003. An economist who spent much of his working life at the Czechoslovak State Bank during the Iron Curtain years, he became active in politics as a champion of free market economics after 1989 and is said to keep a photo of Lady Thatcher, who he greatly admires, on his desk.

Klaus is a European I can respect.

The EU backs Israeli ground offensive?!?!?!?!??!

Pigs are flying. Bless the Czechs, they lived under Soviet tyranny unlike the decadent Western European nanny/welfare states. They know what totalitarianism looks like and it's not coming from Israel.

EU President Czech Republic: Israeli ground incursion defensive, not offensive action

"At the moment, from the perspective of the last days, we understand this step as a defensive, not offensive, action," Czech EU presidency spokesman Jiri Potuznik said.

Czech Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg is leading an EU delegation to the region on Sunday, and Potuznik said the presidency will wait to see the results of that visit.

The Czech Republic already defended Israel's strikes against Hamas last week. At the time, Foreign Minister Schwarzenberg said Israel had the right to defend itself.

"Let us realize one thing: Hamas increased steeply the number of rockets fired at Israel since the ceasefire ended on Dec. 19. That is not acceptable any more," Schwarzenberg told daily Mlada Fronta Dnes in an interview.

Schwarzenberg, a staunch ally of Washington, said Hamas had excluded itself from serious political debate due to its rocket attacks on Israel. He also indirectly blamed the group for the growing death toll, saying it put its bases and gun warehouses in densely populated areas.

"Why am I one of the few that have expressed understanding for Israel? ... I am enjoying the luxury of telling the truth," Schwarzenberg told the daily.

First-hand look at the Muslim/Hard-Left alliance

The symbiotic relationship between the far left and the Islamists is a well-documented phenomenon that is creating new and disturbing political dynamics across the continent of Europe.

I was "lucky" enough to be immersed in a graphic representation of this Left/Islamic convergence here in the United States, during a pro-Hamas march in Washington, DC on December 30, 2008.

The man you see is the organizer of the protest, Brian Becker. According to Discover the Networks he is:

...a Co-Director of Ramsey Clark's International Action Center (IAC) and a steering committee member of International A.N.S.W.E.R. Both are front groups for the Marxist-Leninist Workers World Party (WWP). Through his association with these organizations, Becker has been a prominent figure in the anti-war movement's massive rallies against the war on terror.

The Hard-Left and the Jihad have the same primary goal; to destroy the Western liberal-democratic world order and remake the world in their own image. But the Leftists envision an atheistic centralized state with forced economic/social equality, while the Islamists dream of a state governed by strict Sharia Law.

Does the Left really believe it can ride the backs of its anti-American/Jewish/capitalist fellow-travelers to revolution without allowing a powerful Islamic voice in any new government? Or are they so nihilistic that they'd accept Islamic rule as long as Western capitalism is destroyed? Whatever their strategic vision, they are a threat to our future and must be confronted at all opportunities.

The Iranian Revolution in 1979 was partly instigated by Leftist students, professors and intellectuals, but theocratic Islamic governance emerged from the chaos they created. The Leftists of 2008 are making the same mistake.

Long-range Hamas rockets come from China

The new 40km-range rockets have enabled Hamas to strike Beersheba, the largest city in southern Israel.

The Grad-model Katyusha rockets that were fired into Beersheba on Wednesday were manufactured in China and smuggled into Gaza after the Sinai border wall was blown up by Hamas in January, defense officials said.

They have twice the range of the Iranian-made Grad/Katyusha rockets and four times the range of the Gaza-made Qassam rockets.

Even Egypt admits publicly that Hamas is responsible for the violence

Egypt MP: Hamas abandoning Gazans

Stepping up the rhetoric in what has escalated into an all-out verbal war between Hamas and Egypt over the Gaza government's perceived responsibility for the devastating results of Operation Cast Lead, a senior Egyptian parliamentarian on Thursday accused Hamas leaders of abandoning the Palestinians of Gaza to their fate.

"Where are the Hamas leaders now, when the residents of Gaza are getting killed? All of Hamas's leadership is in bunkers," Muhammad Bassiouny, the head of the parliament's foreign affairs and defense committee, charged in an interview with an Egyptian television channel.

Egyptian FM: Hamas must stop rocket attacks for truce to hold

Egypt's foreign minister said on Thursday that Hamas must ensure rocket fire stops in any truce deal to halt Israel's assault on the Gaza Strip, criticizing the Palestinian group for giving Israel an excuse to launch the bombardment.

...

Aboul Gheit said Israel must immediately halt its offensive, but he insisted Hamas must commit to enforcing a halt to rockets. "We expect the Palestinian side to say that if a cease-fire is announced, we'll stop firing rockets," he said, warning that "some loose group can decide to continue firing rockets and make it difficult to have a cease-fire."

He criticized Hamas, saying Egypt had seen "the signals that Israel was determined to strike Hamas in Gaza for the past three months. They practically wrote it in the sky."

"Unfortunately, they (Hamas) served Israel the opportunity on a golden platter to hit Gaza," he said.
